The Federal government of Nigeria has pledged to eradicate insecurity by the end of 2024.
Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State Defence, revealed that the government is implementing a proactive strategy to tackle banditry, especially in the troubled northern region.
Matawalle, in an interview with the BBC, stated, “God’s willing, from now to the November of 2024, all security challenges will be overcome.”
He indicated that the new tactics and strategies being employed are expected to put an end to the country’s insecurity issues in the upcoming months.
According to Matawalle, these strategies involve taking preemptive action against gunmen in their residences before they can launch attacks.
However, the minister pointed out that despite the severe security issues in the state, the new governor of Zamfara State “has never contacted me and Badaru or asked to meet with us on the security of his state”.

He further noted that several governors, whose states are grappling with insecurity, are collaborating with the federal government to address the issue.
Matawalle urged his governor to seek assistance from the security forces and the federal government, stating, “He cannot do the job alone. He should not mind what is between me and him, he should mind the people of Zamfara State. Put aside all politics and let unite to find a solution for the state.”
