Sowore’s Arrest: Instead of Intimidation, FG Should Prioritize Welfare of Citizens Facing Unimaginable Hardship—NNPP Chieftain

Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has criticized the Federal Government for its arbitrary arrest and intimidation of human rights activists.

He urged the government to shift its attention towards addressing the nation’s deteriorating economy.

Ajadi’s remarks followed the recent arrest of Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’s Presidential Candidate, who was detained upon his return to Nigeria.

Sowore, a key figure in the #EndBadGovernance protest, was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos but was later released.

Ajadi also mentioned the previous week’s arrest of the Nigeria Labour Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, by the Department of State Services (DSS). He stressed that Nigerians are more concerned with the struggling economy, which has led to widespread hardship across the country.

“The Bola Tinubu administration’s actions will be viewed unfavorably due to these arrests,” Ajadi said. “Instead of intimidation, the government should prioritize citizens’ welfare, who face unimaginable hardships.”

He highlighted the country’s economic challenges:

– Exorbitant petrol prices (N1000-N1200)

– Skyrocketing food prices

– Unimplemented minimum wage

– Counterfeiting risks due to dual Naira notes

“The Nigerian government should focus on pressing issues rather than chasing shadows.” Ajadi concluded. #NNPP
