Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) has recently sponsored over 30 top government officials to London for a workshop on Public Financial Management and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), which was reportedly approved by Kashim Shettima.
The workshop, which took place from March 4 to March 9, 2024, was held at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington, United Kingdom.
This initiative comes at a time when the Bola Tinubu administration is striving to reduce the cost of governance amidst economic challenges facing the country. Despite the hardship, the decision was made to facilitate the participation of government officials in the workshop.
Speaking on the reason behind holding the workshop in the UK, Bawa Mokwa, director of press at the accountant-general’s office, explained that the workshop is an annual event and not a one-off meeting.
The participants, who are members of sub-committees of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), play crucial roles in public financial management.

Mokwa further elaborated on the choice of the UK as the venue for the workshop, stating that the facilitators are residents of the country.
“They usually go to the UK to do it annually because the resource persons are resident in the UK and they implement it to the letter,” Mokwa stated.
He emphasized that the event was approved by the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Kashim Shettima.
