The Federal Government will on Wednesday, launch an electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS) and Geospatial Data Repository in Abuja.
The e-CRVS is a digital platform that captures, collates, processes and disseminates data on vital events such as birth, death, marriage, divorce, adoption, migration and stillbirth.
The system also provides digital certificates for all registered events, a verification platform for authorized organizations, and a dashboard that analyzes and displays vital statistics for policy-making.
The launch of the electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS) is part of the government’s commitment to strengthen the civil registration system in Nigeria and achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of providing legal identity for all by 2030.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Kwarra, at a pre-launch briefing on Monday, November 6, 2023, in Abuja.
Kwarra said the electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS) was developed in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which conducted an operational readiness assessment report that showed the potential of digital technologies in improving the civil registration system in Nigeria.
He said the e-CRVS and Geospatial Data Repository would enable the NPC to generate accurate, timely and reliable data on the population and its dynamics, which would facilitate planning, development and governance in the country.
