Fire Engulfs Three Buildings in Idumota Area, Lagos Island

A fire engulfed three buildings at the junction of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo streets in the Idumota area of Lagos Island, Lagos State, on Wednesday.

Videos circulated online by citizens depicted the extent of the inferno.

Confirming the incident, the state Fire and Rescue Service acknowledged the blaze on its social media platform, indicating that it affected two two-storey buildings and one three-storey building.

In a statement issued by Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), she said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call at 07:41 hours reporting a fire outbreak at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo streets in Idumota, Lagos. Emergency services swiftly mobilized in response to the call.

“Upon arrival at 07:58 hours, it was discovered that the fire encompasses three buildings, including two 2-storey structures and one three-storey building.

“Currently, firefighting efforts are underway at the scene.

“The fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa have deployed resources to mitigate the situation effectively as firefighting operations are ongoing.”

Adeseye further mentioned that the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

She added, “The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing. Casualties have not been confirmed at this time.

“We urge residents to cooperate with emergency personnel and avoid the area for their safety.”
