Fire Kills One, Destroys Shops at Gusau Central Market, Zamfara

A fire that broke out at Gusau Central Market in Zamfara State on Tuesday night has claimed the life of a shop owner and destroyed several shops, according to officials.

The fire reportedly started around 9 pm in the furniture section of the market, which is the largest in the state capital. The Nigerian Fire Service responded quickly and firefighters battled the blaze throughout the night, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the market.

However, they were unable to save the life of a shop owner who died while attempting to enter his shop to extinguish the fire himself. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation. The extent of the damage and the value of the goods lost are yet to be determined.

The Gusau Central Market is a major commercial hub in the state, attracting thousands of buyers and sellers every day. It has witnessed several fire incidents in the past.
