The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Akinyinka Akinyemiju confirmed the incident to Daily Post on Sunday.

Akinyemiju, while speaking noted that the agency received the report of the fire incident around 2:35 am on Sunday.

“They called our men about 2:35 am but by the time our men got there, it had affected many shops. 24 shops were affected.

“The only problem we have is that most of the time, the traders do not trash the waste when they are closing.

“I will suggest that all markets should have fire volunteers. Most of the roads have been blocked and this is making it difficult for our men to get there on time.

“There are certain things they need to put in place to prevent future occurrences. Many people do not want to do things for themselves. They want the government to do everything.”
