In honour of World Cancer Day, Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has called for increased awareness of cancer and emphasized the importance of support and solidarity for cancer patients.

Mrs Tinubu said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by her Special Adviser on Media, Busola Kukoyi.

In her statement, she noted that this year’s World Cancer Day is seen as a valuable chance to increase understanding and promote the vital message of cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.

With cancer affecting so many people around the world, we must use events like World Cancer Day to raise awareness and share cancer information. By working together and taking action, we can make a real difference in the fight against cancer.

According to her, ” The theme for this year, ‘Closing the Care Gap’, is to increase our efforts in building essential infrastructure aimed at tackling health challenges and ensuring top-notch care for individuals who are battling cancer or have survived the disease. This means that we need to work tirelessly towards developing more efficient healthcare systems that can cater to the needs of cancer patients and survivors.

“No individual should face the challenges of cancer alone. We should persistently exhibit empathy, compassion, care, love and support for cancer patients while increasing public recognition and lobbying for improved service provision.”

She further calls on Nigerians to celebrate those who have triumphantly conquered cancer.
