Prominent Nigeria investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, has rises alarm that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian military, is planning to arrest him.
In a tweet on Monday, Soyombo revealed that he had received information about the alleged plans, marking the first time Customs has considered arresting him, despite previous threats to bribe or eliminate him.
According to Soyombo, this development follows a motion by the House of Representatives last week to probe the complicity of the Customs Service in smuggling activities.
The journalist linked the motion to his persistent investigative work, including his widely discussed “Good Morning Nigeria Customs” tweets, which highlighted the corruption and inefficiencies within the service.

Soyombo further disclosed that he has previously been warned of threats by Customs officers, including plans to “take him down” or “execute” him.
He expressed concerns for his safety, holding the Customs Service accountable for any harm that might come to him. “Should I go missing, Nigerians now know that I am with the Nigeria Customs Service,” he stated, placing the responsibility for his safety on the agency.
This latest allegation has raised fresh concerns about the safety of investigative journalists in Nigeria, who often face harassment and threats for exposing corruption and holding public institutions accountable.
