The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of five individuals following the detonation of a military-grade explosive in the state.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday at a scrap collection site located along the Eastern Bypass.
According to the police, the vehicle carrying the explosive was coming from Yobe State when the blast occurred.

Speaking to journalists, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said he received a distress call about an explosion in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, he confirmed the extent of the destruction caused by the blast.
“It was a military EOD personnel. It was a military model bomb that exploded. 15 people were injured and taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.”

He added that upon arriving at the hospital, five individuals were confirmed dead, while ten others were receiving treatment for various injuries.
The police commissioner stated that preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle originated from Yobe State. Although the case is still under investigation, he noted that initial reports indicated the truck carrying the explosive came from Yobe.
CP Bakori assured the public that more details would be provided as the investigation progresses.
