Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party governorship candidate for the 2023 Lagos State election, has criticized the Lagos State government for neglecting citizens during the recent flood in Lagos.
In an interview on the Arise TV morning show, Gbadebo said, “Lagos State is like an SPV for them to attain material wealth for themselves, their colleagues, and families.” He added that youth in politics who have not been compromised want to hold them accountable, which they don’t like.
Gbadebo further stated that he is fine, but Lagos State is not, while replying to Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water, who said, “Eventually, you will be fine.”
He further stated that, unfortunately, they have to pretend like they care, and this goes to the very top. All of us were very worried about the killings happening here in the South-West.
While making reference to the recent flood in the state, he said, “All those towing vehicles that they usually use to carry people’s cars when they want to tow people’s cars did not help people in flooded areas that needed emergency assistance.”
However, he said he wants a Lagos that works for the people, not one where, when it’s time for demolition, you are on set, and when it’s an emergency, you are tweeting away. That is not the Lagos we want.
“When it’s time for demolition, you are on set; when it’s an emergency, you are tweeting away. That’s my response,” he said. “Lagos deserves so much and should not be neglected.”
