Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, has secured the coveted title of the most powerful woman in Africa, as revealed by Forbes’ 20th annual ranking on Tuesday.
This distinguished Nigerian figure clinched the 87th position in the prestigious Most Powerful Women in the World list, outshining South African businesswoman Mpumi Madisa, who claimed the 88th spot.
The global list also welcomed Tanzanian President Samia Hassan at the 93rd position and renowned Nigerian media mogul and philanthropist Mo Abudu at 98th place.

Topping the charts as the most powerful woman in the world for 2023 is Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission for Impactful Policy and Budget.
The second position is held by Christine Lagarde, the European Central Bank President, while U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris secured the third spot, reinforcing the global influence and impact of these influential women in the spheres of politics, business, and media.
