Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy chairman, Bode George, has advised the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to refrain from pursuing ambitions for the 2027 elections.
George, a prominent figure within the party, emphasised that Atiku, who turned 77 last year, should assume the role of a respected elder statesman, guiding and mentoring the next generation of leaders due to his age.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, George stated, “My brother Atiku Abubakar was 77 years old last year and by 2027 he will be 81 years.
“Atiku should be in a situation where he plays like the big uncle in the room or the elder in the room.
“What would anybody carry me now to do because I’m heading to 80 years and I want to go and be minister, to do what?
“Let’s mentor the younger generation and let’s be consistent with our strong belief in our party norms.”

It’s worth noting that a former spokesperson for Atiku, Daniel Bwala, had previously confirmed Atiku’s intention to contest the presidential election again in 2027.
Atiku, who attempted to secure the Nigerian presidency six times, faced unsuccessful bids in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023.
