Former Senator Chukwuka Utazi, who had represented the Enugu-North Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023, has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Utazi, a founding member of the PDP since its inception in 1998, attributed his departure to the fading ideals that had initially drawn him to the party.
The resignation took place at Nkpologu Ward, within the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, where Senator Utazi submitted his resignation letter to Chief Robert Ezeagu, the PDP Chairman, on Sunday.
In his resignation letter, Senator Utazi expressed his reluctance to leave the party he had been a part of for decades.
He wrote, “It is with reservation that I resign my membership in the People’s Democratic Party, of which I had the privilege of being a founding member at its inception in 1998. The reason being that those ideals that attracted me to the party have since receded into oblivion, leaving me with no option but to leave and find another party that will afford me ample opportunity to operate maximally and contribute to national development.”

He concluded the letter with well-wishes for his former colleagues, stating, “I am therefore wishing you all well as you continue to work hard to eke out a living in the best way possible under the present circumstances. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation so far.”
While Senator Utazi’s departure from the PDP marks a significant political development, he has not yet revealed his next steps in the world of politics. His decision to leave one of Nigeria’s prominent political parties raises questions about the direction he intends to take in his political career. (Source: NAN)
