In the aftermath of a tragic accident on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway resulting in the loss of 18 lives and injuries to 27 passengers, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu, has ordered the impoundment of vehicles transporting humans and animals together.
Expressing concern over the incident, Biu all Sector Commanders to establish joint task forces, collaborating with other agencies, to impound trailers and trucks carrying both humans and animals.
Moreover, Biu called for legal action against the drivers involved in such practices.
Deputy Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem conveyed Biu’s message, stating that the establishment of joint task forces with sister agencies is crucial for conducting special operations to eradicate this dangerous practice.

“To reverse the trend, all Sector Commanders are to set up joint task forces to impound trailers and trucks carrying humans and animals. The courts should prosecute the drivers,” Biu said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Biu stressed the importance of collaboration among various agencies, including the police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Army, and Vehicle Inspection Officers, to effectively combat this menace.
Describing the accident as avoidable, Biu expressed dismay at the nonchalant attitude of drivers who neglect basic traffic rules. The directive aims to enhance coordination and enforcement measures to prevent similar incidents on the nation’s highways.
