Christiana Idowu, a student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in Ogun State, who was kidnapped between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos State, has reportedly been murdered by her abductor.
Ibrahim Adeyemi, the President of the Student Union Government at FUNAAB, confirmed the tragic news during a phone call with our correspondent on Thursday.
“The Union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will be addressing the matter soon,” Adeyemi stated.
On August 26, a family source informed PUNCH Metro that the kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N3 million for Christiana’s release.
The source revealed that Christiana was en route to the University of Lagos in Yaba for her industrial training when she was abducted.
After she became unreachable, the kidnappers contacted the family using her phone and insisted on the N3 million ransom.
Despite the family’s appeals, the kidnappers later agreed to accept N350,000, which the family paid into a specified account.

However, the abductors failed to release Christiana even after receiving the payment. In a related development, a user on X, @letter_to_jack, reported that intelligence operatives traced the abductor’s location using the BVN and account details linked to the ransom transactions.
The tweet read, “Investigation by intelligence operatives began on the 26th to unravel details of the account number.
“By the 29th, intelligence operatives had confirmation from the bank that the BVN linked to the masked Betting account allegedly belonged to the account owner (name withheld for now) who also operates the Wema Bank (account no withheld for now)
“Further investigation revealed that he was able to withdraw the sum of N100,000 from the betting account before agents got the betting company to lock the account.”
He also mentioned that the operatives managed to track the suspected abductor to a location in Ikorodu, Lagos State, where Christiana’s family also lives.
“Armed by this information, operatives began an investigation into the suspect whom they observed to have a mutual relationship with Christiannah Idowu, especially judging by Instagram posts as they both commented on each other’s pages.
“With all this information at hand, the operatives began to track down his cell phone activities and text messages. The cell phone tracking led them to his parent’s house, somewhere in Ikorodu.”
Attempts to reach the victim’s family for a reaction were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the family went unanswered at the time this report was filed.
Additionally, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin did not respond to messages sent to his WhatsApp, despite having read them, and had not answered calls made to his line by our correspondent.
