Tensions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) escalated on Sunday during a zonal meeting in Nigeria’s North-East as party members erupted in protest against National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, forcing him to be escorted out under heavy security.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), political commentator Imran U. Wakili described the scene as a sign of a crumbling party under internal pressure.
“Today we are witnessing the beginning of the end of APC, Ganduje needed tons security personnels to be escorted out of the APC North East meeting with the subtle chants of ‘BAMAYI,’” he wrote.
“Bamayi,” meaning “we don’t want” in Hausa, echoed through the hall as discontented APC members reportedly challenged leadership moves to push a Tinubu-Shettima 2027 endorsement.
“This is APC Members, I wonder how they will face angry Nigerians,” Wakili added, hinting at deeper disaffection among party loyalists, not just the opposition.
The development adds to earlier chaos reported at the same meeting, where angry youths disrupted proceedings, allegedly attacking top APC figures amid claims of imposed decisions and by the ruling administration.
Videos from the scene have circulated widely on social media, painting a picture of confusion, dissent, and a party grappling with its growing internal fractures.
So far, the APC has not issued an official response to the allegations or videos.
