REVEALED: Ganduje’s Resignation as APC Chairman Not Due to Health Concerns But Pressure from Tinubu

Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s sudden resignation as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday was not primarily due to health concerns, as officially claimed, but rather the result of mounting pressure from Bola Tinubu.

Although the exact cause of the reported rift between Tinubu and Ganduje remains unclear, insiders revealed that the Nigerian ruler had privately asked the former Kano governor to step down by Monday.

Ganduje’s decision to tender his resignation ahead of the expected timeline reportedly took Tinubu by surprise.

“We anticipated his resignation by Monday. The intention was for him to use the weekend to quietly remove his personal belongings from the National Secretariat, away from the prying eyes of the media”, a source said.

“However, it seems he was displeased and chose to tender his resignation immediately”.

Investigations indicate that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is now working to select a new National Chairman from the North-Central geopolitical zone—the region originally assigned the position under the party’s zoning arrangement.

This follows Bola Tinubu’s contentious decision in 2023 to install Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, from the North-West, as chairman following the removal of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

That move, which disregarded the party’s agreed zoning formula, sparked criticism from several stakeholders and interest groups within the North-Central region.

Among those reportedly eyeing the APC chairmanship position is Senator Umar Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State.

However, further reports indicate that key party stakeholders are now seriously considering Senator George Akume, the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), as a possible candidate for the APC national chairmanship.
