“Gaza War Not Over,” Says Netanyahu After Yahya Sinwar’s Death

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel had “settled its account” with “the individual responsible for the worst massacre of our people since the Holocaust.”

He described the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar as a significant milestone in the effort to bring home hostages held in Gaza.

Netanyahu also stated that those who surrendered their weapons and helped secure the return of the hostages would be allowed to leave Gaza safely.

However, Netanyahu on Thursday said the Gaza war had not ended with the killing of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, while calling on militants to free hostages.

“The war is not over yet. And it is difficult, and it exacts heavy prices from us,” Netanyahu said in a video statement, adding in a message to Palestinians in Gaza that “Whoever lays down his weapon and returns our hostages, we will allow him to go on living.”

The Israeli military said it had killed Sinwar in an operation in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

“After completing the process of identifying the body, it can be confirmed that Yahya Sinwar was eliminated,” it said.
