Let’s Go to Lagos Island Together, If You Don’t Cover Your Nose, You Win—Netizen Dares Tokunbo Wahab

An X user has strongly criticised Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, for refuting claims that Lagos smells terribly.

On his X handle, the user @jamysax challenged Tokunbo to take a tour of Lagos Island with him, specifically pointing out Tinubu’s Square and 5 other locations to confirm his claims.

His post reads, “Mr Tokunbo, If you are free next week, let’s go to Lagos Island together. I will walk you through Tinubu Square to those places they sell fabric if you do not cover your nose. You win.

“After that we will do like 5 other locations, if you do not cover your nose, you win

His challenge comes following the tweets of Tokunbo claiming that the criticism about Lagos is a deliberate effort to tarnish the image of the state.

Recall that a Real estate enthusiast and outspoken critic, Scott Iguma, has raised concerns over the deteriorating state of infrastructure in Lagos, calling out the stark contrast between the city’s high property prices and its poor living conditions.

Tokunbu said, “The deliberate efforts by a handful of individuals to tarnish the reputation of Lagos State are deeply concerning. It is regrettable that some who relocate from their home states in pursuit of better opportunities quickly, in less than a month or two, resort to disparaging the very state that has provided them the platform to thrive.

“Leveraging social media followings, these individuals propagate harmful narratives, often aligned with divisive agendas, undermining the progress and inclusivity that Lagos represents.

“While constructive criticism is essential for growth, malicious attempts to vilify a state that empowers countless lives daily are counterproductive. Lagos remains a place of opportunity, innovation, and resilience, and it is imperative that we collectively uphold its integrity while fostering unity and progress.

“Dear @IgumaScott I do hope that you will put this same energy in ‘looking out’ for other states. I wish you all the best! TW.”
