Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has raised concerns about the significant debt burden and unfinished projects left by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

During the commissioning of the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road, also known as Old Bori Road, in Eleme Local Government Area, Fubara revealed that many of the projects inaugurated by the previous administration were not fully funded.

Fubara stated that contractors are now returning for outstanding payments, indicating that his administration is being pressured to address these financial obligations.

The event was attended by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, who commended Fubara’s leadership and efforts in the state.

Governor Fubara mentioned that he will begin presenting detailed financial records, or “white papers,” during project commissioning events to highlight the costs and payments made.

He emphasized that his administration has fully paid for the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road project, which was awarded at a cost of N6.7 billion.

Fubara stated “As we are going we will be going with the white paper to show the records and the amount of the projects. It was awarded at the cost of N6.7bn. I can say that we have paid the contractor completely.

“The purpose of this is to let the world know that if there is one problem this administration has is debt. Most of the projects that are commissioned they are coming for their balanced payment running into billions.

“I said I don’t want to talk because I am part of the system. But when you continue to push me I will say it so that they will see the nyash of the fowl.

“Aleto is a bypass that if you cannot assess the East-West road, it can take you away from the bad section to the good section of the East-West road. Is what we are doing today not a help to the Federal Government and a show that this government has interest and the support and is doing everything to make the Federal government succeed?

“So when people come and say funny things, I start laughing. It is not social media, we are talking about actions. We are taking actions that make positive impacts in the lives of out people,” he added.

The governor also pointed out that his administration is not in conflict with the federal government and that the newly commissioned road serves as a crucial bypass for the East-West road, benefiting both the state and the federal government.

On his part, Otti praised Fubara for his dedication and service to the people of Rivers State, describing his governance style as true leadership that prioritizes public interest over individual gains.

Otti also highlighted Fubara’s experience from previous administrations, which has prepared him for his current role.
