‘A Govt That Associates with Terrorists, Refuses to Bring Murderers to Justice Has No Moral Authority to Accuse Foreign Powers’ —Inibehe Effiong

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has sharply criticized the Nigerian government amid former US President Donald Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”

Effiong wrote on his X account formerly Twitter that “A government that openly associates with terrorists and refuses to bring murderers to justice has no moral authority to accuse a foreign power of interference.”

Effiong also highlighted the political exploitation of ethnic and religious divisions, questioning the agenda of leaders, especially in the ruling APC.

“If you remove ethnic and religious politics from the equation, what will politicians in Nigeria across party lines, especially those in the APC, campaign on?” he asked.

He further warned that while foreign powers may have their own interests, the root cause of Nigeria’s insecurity—including targeted killings and acts of violence—remains domestic leadership and its inability to ensure accountability.

Effiong’s remarks have intensified discussions around political accountability, governance, and the moral responsibility of Nigeria’s leadership in protecting its citizens.
