Youths Are Never Determined to Engage in Violence During Protests; Government Sponsored Thugs to Instigate EndSARS Violence – Femi Falana

Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana has stated that youths are not inclined to violence during protests, and that the violence which followed the EndSARS protest was instigated and sponsored by the federal government.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, claiming that during the EndSars protest about 99 Nigerian youths were killed in Lagos with several others in other states of the federation.

His comments come amid growing concerns about the ongoing planned protests in Nigeria, scheduled to start on August.

Falana said, “Young people or workers have never gone out determined to engage in violence. People are distorting our history by saying that in 2020, young people were violent. No, young people took part in the EndSARS protest and they gathered in different places in Lagos. They were singing, discussing among themselves, and people were giving them food.”

“What happened was that a notorious union leader sent his thugs to attack the youths. The government also unleashed hoodlums to attack the youths and when that did not work, the government sent troops and soldiers to engage in killing young people. In one week, about 99 people were killed in Lagos.”

“I don’t want to talk about Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Benin, and other places where people were killed.”

He added, “The violence that characterized the end of the EndSARS protests was instigated and sponsored by the government.”
