Former NECO Chairman Claims Government Officials Embezzled N6 Billion

In a startling revelation at the NECO Award Ceremony held in Minna, Niger State, former Chairman of the National Examination Council Board, Prof Abubakar Mohammed, has accused government officials, particularly within the Ministry of Education, of misappropriating N6 billion belonging to the examination body.

Prof Mohammed, speaking unequivocally, asserted that these officials are actively working to sabotage the indigenous examination body, expressing concern over their actions.

He stated, “The government and especially some officials in the Ministry of Education are out to sabotage the indigenous examination body. I do not owe anyone any apology for my statement, some government officials don’t want NECO to exist.”

He went on to reveal that the officials had withdrawn N6 billion from NECO’s accounts, emphasizing that the funds have not been returned, and there has been a lack of transparency regarding the usage of the substantial amount.

“The officials first withdrew the N6 billion found in the accounts of the organization. Till date, the money has not been returned and nobody even bothered to inform us what they did with the money,” Prof Mohammed revealed.
