On Thursday, a gunman in Rotterdam, Netherlands, shot a local lady and her daughter in their house before breaking into a classroom at Rotterdam’s university hospital and shooting a male teacher.
Police spokesman Fred Westerbeke stated that the shooting began at a private residence in the city’s Heiman Dullaert square, where the alleged shooter shot and killed a 39-year-old lady and “seriously injured” her 14-year-old daughter, who reportedly died later at the hospital.
The shooter, who then set the woman’s house on fire, went on to the Rotterdam Medical Centre University, where he entered a classroom and shot a male teacher.
Near the hospital, where he also lit a fire, the man was apprehended. His motivation was unclear.
“We have been shocked by a horrible incident. Shots were fired in two different places in the city. Many people witnessed it,” Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said.

Online videos showed police telling students to flee as heavily armed arrest teams arrived at the area; some of the students were wearing white hospital gowns. In one video, a man wearing what seemed to be combat trousers was handcuffed. There were no signs of a second shooter, according to the police.
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands wrote on Thursday to express his dismay over the incident: “My thoughts are with the victims of the violence, their loved ones, and all those who have been in great fear.
