Over the weekend, a group of armed individuals launched an attack on buses traveling from Kogi State to Abuja, seizing control of the vehicles and taking the passengers hostage.
In response to the incident that transpired on Sunday, the Kogi State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Bethrand Onuoha, swiftly dispatched a tactical team to the scene.
The team, comprised of the Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and other law enforcement officers, was deployed to address the situation.

Providing insights into the ongoing efforts, the Command’s Spokesperson, William Aya, revealed in a statement that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), local vigilantes, and hunters had already ventured into the bush to initiate the rescue operation for the victims.
A man, deeply distressed by the situation, took to his X handle to share the harrowing experience of his wife being among the kidnapped passengers.
Unable to reach out to friends via X and IG, he resorted to sending them an email, imploring assistance in spreading awareness about the bus hijacking incident in Kogi.
He wrote: “Please help me spread the word about the bus hijacking by gunmen in Kogi yesterday. My wife was in that bus.
“The bus departed from Umuahia at 7:30 a.m. and was hijacked in Kogi State. The company said they have contacted security services and they are tracking them.
“The kidnappers called this morning using my wife’s phone and asked for N15 million. Please help me create awareness on social media.”
The incident has caused fear among road users who are worried about falling prey to kidnappers on the Kogi-Abuja highway.
