Gunmen Kidnap Three Residents in FCT Estate

Three residents of an estate along Kuchibiyi in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were kidnapped by gunmen on Thursday night, according to security sources and eyewitnesses.

The assailants, who were said to be over 20 in number, stormed the estate around 9 p.m. and shot sporadically into the air to scare people away.

They then disconnected the alert systems of the houses they attacked and whisked away a couple and a man.

The gunmen escaped through a bush track that links the community to another village.

The security source, who is a member of the vigilante group in the estate, told Daily Trust that they tried to repel the attack but had to retreat because of the superior firepower and number of the kidnappers.

He said that one of the vigilantes was shot in the hand during the exchange of gunfire.

He also noted that the kidnappers have not contacted anyone yet to demand ransom.

This is not the first time that gunmen have invaded the estate and abducted residents. In March, at least nine people were taken from separate apartments in the same estate by armed men.
