Unidentified gunmen ambushed a security patrol team in Ebonyi State, resulting in the tragic death of a police operative.
The attack unfolded at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Thursday along Ngbo-Effium Road in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
According to Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson in the state, the patrol team became the target of assailants who initiated a sudden ambush, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Unfortunately, one police operative lost his life during the confrontation, while another sustained injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Ukandu confirmed the incident and highlighted that the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State has swiftly deployed tactical teams to the scene.

Urging residents to assist in the investigation, he called for any pertinent information that could aid in the apprehension of the attackers.
This grim incident in Ebonyi State follows closely on the heels of a similar attack in Akwa Ibom State.
