According to Egyptian officials cited by the Qatari New Arab news outlet, Hamas has agreed to release five Israeli hostages in exchange for a temporary ceasefire during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
“The ball is now in the Israeli government and Americans’ court,” the officials stated, indicating that the United States and Qatar are intensively involved in the negotiations.
The proposed temporary ceasefire would last around 50 days.

As part of the deal, Hamas is calling for the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for freeing five Israeli hostages.
The agreement also includes measures to facilitate the delivery of food, medical supplies, and other essential aid into Gaza.
One of the hostages expected to be released is US-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander.

The ceasefire is set to align with Eid al-Fitr, which begins on Sunday, March 31, and ends on Wednesday, April 3. However, it remains uncertain whether Israel’s government will approve the proposal.
This development comes amid ongoing deadlock in negotiations, months of conflict, and growing international pressure to secure the release of hostages taken during Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
