Heads Will Roll — Minister Warns of Consequences for Officials Responsible for Poor Olympics Performance

Minister of Sports Development John Onoh has stated that some government officials will be relieved of their duties if investigations reveal their role in Nigeria’s failure to win any medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The minister, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday, said all of the issues that arose at the games would be interrogated.

“All of those things, I am going to engage, I am going to interrogate,” he said.
“You don’t fire unless you interrogate. I have always stated my determination that I am not going to allow things to lie low; I am going to take them up one by one.”

Asked if heads will roll, the minister said, “Well, if that is what it takes; if my findings and interrogations get to that point that people become liable, people become responsible, for the kind of negative publicity that we had at the Olympics, why not?”
