Rivers LG Poll: Heavy Shooting at Wike’s Ward as Election Turns Violent

The ongoing local government elections in Rivers State have erupted into chaos, with heavy gunfire reported in Rumuepirikom, the hometown of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.

Wike, the state’s former governor, is currently at odds with the sitting governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who has proceeded with the grassroots elections despite challenges.

Eyewitnesses report that unidentified individuals stormed the area, warning residents to remain indoors.

As electoral officers arrived at a ward in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, armed men, suspected to be political thugs, launched a violent attack.
