In a recent development at the Federal High Court in Abuja, bail applications from individuals purportedly loyal to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, have been dismissed. These individuals stand accused in connection to the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly in October 2023.

The defendants, identified as Chime Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod, faced charges of terrorism and alleged murder following the incident. Amidst claims of their involvement in the bombing, they also faced accusations of assaulting and killing police officers during the tumultuous events.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Bolaji Olajuwon, emphasized the severity of the charges, which carry capital penalties. Justice Olajuwon highlighted the court’s assessment, stating, “there was no evidence to the fact that the facilities at the correctional center cannot meet the health needs of the defendants.” She further emphasized the capability of the correctional center’s health facilities to manage the defendants’ health conditions.

Despite the defendants’ plea citing health concerns, the court deemed their charges too grave for bail consideration. The case has been adjourned until February 8, 2024, for further proceedings.

Governor Fubara, in response to the legal developments, expressed anticipation for accelerated progress, stating, “With legal battle over, expect accelerated developments.”
