Remi Tinubu to Market Women— Refrain From Hiking Food Prices Ahead of Yuletide Season

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on market women across the country to avoid unnecessary price hikes on food items as the yuletide season approaches.

Mrs Tinubu made the appeal during the 2024 Ebonyi Women’s Day Celebration held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.

She stated, “With the Yuletide season fast approaching, I want to plead with all our market women to refrain from unfair hike in prices of food items during the festive season.’’

As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme, Mrs Tinubu donated N50 million, 20,000 wrappers, shoes, and bags to support women’s businesses in Ebonyi State.

She commended the state’s governor, Francis Nwifuru, for exceeding 35% female representation in appointments, highlighting that the state deputy governor and Secretary to the State Government are women.

Mrs Tinubu also announced the governor’s initiative to empower 130 women with N1 million each as a business recapitalisation grant.

In her remarks, she praised the theme of the event, “Uplifting Women for Sustainable Development,” and acknowledged the contributions of Ebonyi women to the success of Bola Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru during the last elections.

Earlier in the day, the First Lady inaugurated a 3.1km runway at the Wilberforce Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, which is set to commence commercial flight operations on December 13.

Additionally, she met with traditional rulers at the Presidential Lodge, Abakaliki, urging them to continue promoting peace and praying for the nation.

“Nigeria has everything it takes for us to be a great nation. We have to continue to bless this land and I appeal to you, our traditional rulers, to lead in that regard,” she added.

Governor Nwifuru expressed gratitude for Mrs Tinubu’s visit and lauded the impact of the RHI intervention programmes on Ebonyi women. He also credited the women of the state for their vital role in its development.
