Kano: Hisbah Bans Sports Betting, Imposes Stricter Restrictions on Women’s Night Movements

The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned all types of sports betting within the state.

Deputy Commander-General Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen announced this during a press briefing, highlighting Hisbah’s renewed commitment to combating immorality.

He mentioned that the Hisbah has re-launched the ‘operation to eliminate immorality’ and its officers will soon take action against individuals and groups disrupting social order in the state.

He also stated that, in an effort to restore discipline and order, the Hisbah will arrest any landlord who rents out properties to unidentified individuals, considering the rise in cases where residential homes are being used as lodges and motels in the city.

He stated that the board has introduced new rules on courtship, specifying that from now on, couples in the courting stage will not be allowed to sit in tinted vehicles, especially at night.

He also highlighted that while street begging is illegal, female beggars found staying outside late into the night would be arrested.

Dr. Mujaheed further expressed concern over the rising cases of prostitution among young girls and warned that any woman found in a tricycle after 10 pm would also be detained.

He cautioned the public against breaking any of these regulations, noting that violations would lead to severe penalties.

He urged parents to be watchful over their children, particularly the girls, and to prevent them from engaging in any misconduct that could lead to breaking these rules set across the state.
