This financial preservation was achieved by sealing off various avenues of fiscal waste.

The governor, represented by Deputy Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made this statement during his address at the World Anti-Corruption Day event, which was hosted by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

Governor Yusuf disclosed that prior mismanagement of state funds by authorities had resulted in institutional neglect and compromised the public’s welfare.

However, his administration’s firm stance against corruption has led to the recovery of public assets wrongfully claimed by individuals in the previous administration, ensuring these assets are now serving the public interest.

The state’s commitment to eradicating corruption is further demonstrated by the establishment of dedicated anti-corruption units within government agencies.

Additionally, the administration has addressed the backlog of pensions and gratuities owed to retirees, a sum totaling N6 billion, which had been disregarded by the former regime.

Muhyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano anti-graft agency, in his opening remarks, praised the agency as the most dynamic subnational anti-corruption body in Nigeria.

He noted that the agency’s success has inspired other state governors to seek guidance on forming and maintaining similar institutions.

Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police, emphasized the necessity for systemic reform and cultural reorientation to bolster the anti-corruption crusade.

He advocated for institutional reforms that would instill values in employees reflective of the organization’s ethos.

Gumel called for judicial accountability to ensure that personal biases do not undermine institutional integrity.

To fortify the collective fight against corruption, Gumel urged for a comprehensive approach encompassing prevention, detection, and prosecution, supported by robust legislative frameworks and competent law enforcement.

He underscored the importance of cultivating a societal ethos of morality and ethics, empowering every citizen to denounce and resist corrupt practices.
