Singer Habeeb Okikiola, professionally known as Portable, revealed that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State paid him N2 million after he complained about the poor road conditions across the state.
In a viral video on social media, the 30-year-old musician said, “Oga (Dapo Abiodun) ti te two million naira, won ni Dapo ni gbogbo ona ni oun ma se,” which translates to “the boss has sent two million naira and has promised to repair every road.”
Governor Abiodun has faced significant criticism on social media regarding the poor state of several major roads in Ogun State, with many netizens labeling them as “death traps.”
Peoples Gazette reached out to Governor Abiodun and the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, for comments on Portable’s statement via WhatsApp. Although the messages were successfully delivered, neither had responded at the time of this report.
Amid the online criticism, Governor Abiodun has urged the people of the state to be patient with the government. This plea came during an on-the-spot assessment of roads in the Ifo Local Government Area on Monday.
“I want to implore our people to be patient with us. We cannot reconstruct all the bad roads in three years,” the governor said. “In fact, no administration can reconstruct all the roads in Ogun State, not even in 8 years,” he added.
“When I assumed office on the 29th of May, 2019, the deficit that we met on assumption of office was such that we began to wonder what the previous administration was doing.”
