Retired Field Company Sergeant Major, Peter Salifu has revealed that he fought against Biafra but later realized that he was wrong.
He made this known in an interview programme realized on X.
He narrated that horrible ordeal encountered by children, men, women and even soldiers.
His words,”Obasanjo said that the killings in the countercoup were senseless.

“Army officers of Igbo origin, we are killed in Abeokuta, in Ikeja killed all of them and Northerners and military officers then went to town that was what you saw in Kaduna.
“Igbo men and women were killed, even children, that’s what you call the pogrom and because of the pogrom there was war.

“Yes in 1967, you joined in a Nigerian army, after you have witnessed the pogrom you joined.
“After I saw everything as living witness, then after that war i decided to write my book.
“I joined the Biafra to keep Nigeria as one but later on I discovered that they were not wrong.
“I was in the trench for 20 months fighting day and night, 20 months without being posted to war or transfered from the trench until the end of the war and I saw and I saw how the biafrans were determined with zeal to fight us, they were fighting for survival.
“Even it came to a point that 1969 when some soldiers realized that the war was fruitless , it was only the war that only the ordinary people were being killed in the war front and those who died in the war front were not affected .
“People started to inflict themselves with injury to be taken to the hospital until Obasanjo came to stable the situation of not I believe and I stated in my book there how biafrans surrendered.
