Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) has expressed solidarity with National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, who reportedly faced threats from NYSC officials after criticizing Bola Tinubu’s led administration over economic hardship.
In a recent tweet on his X handle, Obi condemned the intimidation faced by the corps member, stating that such actions are detrimental to democratic values.
He emphasized that a government that silences its citizens is often corrupt and unaccountable.
Obi revealed that he, too, has been subjected to threats and harassment for offering constructive criticisms on government policies. He described how intimidation and name-calling have become a norm for those who speak out against misgovernance.

According to him, this pattern of silencing dissenting voices undermines the principles of democracy and good governance, making it difficult for the country to progress.
Obi urged the Tinubu administration to change its approach toward criticism and embrace dialogue rather than suppression.
He stressed that constructive feedback is essential for national development, particularly in sectors like education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
He also called on patriotic Nigerians not to allow fear to stifle their voices but to continue advocating for a just and accountable government.
Obi insisted that Nigeria should be a nation where citizens can voice their concerns without intimidation, and where leaders take immediate action to address pressing national issues.
