Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has recounted how he sacked his daughter from work due to her lateness.
Obasanjo stated this while hosting Dayo Israel, the new board chairman of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at his residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex.
The former president stressed that no effective leader can achieve success without making tough choices.
He explained that the incident served as a powerful lesson to his employees.

Obasanjo recounted the incident involving his daughter, who had joined his farm for practical experience after he left office as Head of State.
He said, “On her first day, she arrived at 7:15 a.m. instead of the usual 7:00 a.m. I warned her about the need to set a good example for other workers.

“To my amazement, she was late again the following day. I did not hesitate to send her back right from the gate. This had a significant impact on my employees, who said, ‘If Baba could do this to his daughter, who are we?’”
Obasanjo also urged Israel to be just, fair, and humane, even when difficult decisions must be made.
Citing the incident, he advised Israel to prepare for challenges and be ready to make firm decisions, even if it means stepping on toes, to succeed in his role.
Earlier, Israel described Obasanjo as an international figure brimming with wisdom and wit, saying, “Meeting Baba Obasanjo is always enjoyable. His wisdom and experience are invaluable as we embark on this journey of transformation at FMC Abeokuta.”
