Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have taken a page straight out of Nyesom Wike’s political playbook as they openly defend their decision to remain in the PDP while throwing their weight behind the newly formed opposition coalition anchored on the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a series of bold reactions online, PDP loyalists unapologetically invoked Wike’s long-standing ability to exist in two realities—serving in Tinubu’s APC government while still carrying a PDP membership card—as their justification for supporting ADC from within.
“If Hon. Minister Wike can stay in PDP and work for the APC, then we can also stay in the PDP and join the platform of the coalition, the ADC,” a post circulating among PDP grassroots supporters read.
One user didn’t hold back, offering what may be the most culturally resonant political clapback of the season: “Wike that thing when your mama teach you, our mama teach us too.”
Their logic? If Wike can collect federal power from the APC while wearing PDP agbada, then backing ADC while remaining under the PDP umbrella is fair game. The line between party structure and personal survival, once faint, has now been fully erased—and proudly so. Another account simply stated: “Just so you know, most PDP members are staying in PDP and will work for ADC.”

This growing sentiment reflects what some are calling the Wike Doctrine—a flexible interpretation of party loyalty that allows one to serve two masters as long as the rewards keep coming.
Observers say the recent handover of ADC to top opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi, has turned the party into a magnet for every disgruntled power player with unfinished business in 2027. For many PDP members, it appears the best way to fight Tinubu’s government is not by leaving their party but by acting like Wike did: stay inside, eat outside.
