Renowned investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, has said that hoping for divine intervention or expecting ethical behaviour from those in power is futile and urged Nigerians to accept the country’s harsh realities and prepare to take matters into their own hands if they desire justice and peace.
Reflecting on the events of 2023, Hundeyin Highlighted the harsh realities faced by Nigerian citizens and asserted that Nigeria, as an underdeveloped third-world country, lacks robust systems and structures, particularly in law enforcement and justice.
He further said that in such an environment, self-reliance and even resorting to violence become necessary for survival.
Taking to his X account, Hundeyin wrote, “Listen, Nigeria is an underdeveloped 3rd world country. That’s just a fact we should accept. That means its systems and structures are more theory than fact, especially when it comes to law enforcement and justice. If you want something done in Nigeria, you have to get your hands dirty.
“This is the country where police kidnap young women off the street and rape them in police cells using discarded sachet water bags as condoms – if you don’t develop the capacity for violence and use it to help yourself, who wants to give you justice in this kind of place? Who send your papa for Nigeria?”

Hundeyin questioned the integrity of judges, soldiers, and the international community, pointing out the corruption and complicity that undermine justice.
He cited incidents such as judges on drug kingpins’ payrolls, soldiers receiving bribes, and international complacency in the face of human rights abuses as evidence of systemic failure.
“Is it the judge that is on a drug kingpin’s payroll? Or the soldier that is collecting monthly “Tinubu allowance” to look the other way? Or the “international community” that watched Buhari shoot 99 civilian protesters dead and then hosted him in London like nothing happened?” He asked.
“If you want peace, prepare for war. That was my big lesson from 2023 after waiting for some compromised old men wearing colonial horsehair wigs to deliver the most obvious verdict in the history of obvious verdicts, only for them to show that Nigeria’s ruling classes truly have no iota of shame. Accept Nigeria for what it is and stop hoping that “God” might touch the heart of someone in authority to make them act right.. “
