Nigerian socialite, Obinna Tochukwu Iyiegbu known as Obi Cubana has been warned not to bring his ‘City Boy’ movement, a group projecting Bola Tinubu 2027 bid to the South East he abandoned while heavily investing in Lagos and Abuja.
In a video shared on X, a netizen criticized the billionaire nightlife investor, accusing him of abandoning Igbo communities while concentrating his wealth and influence in Lagos and Abuja. According to the netizen, Obi Cubana’s business footprint shows “little interest” in the region he hails from.
Obi Cubana, recently declared his support for chief Bola Tinubu following his appointment as the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, and the presentation of his appointment letter by Seyi Tinubu, son of Bola Tinubu.
“I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart,” he said.
Declaring his loyalty to the movement, the nightlife entrepreneur added: “I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside — so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through, inside and out.”
However, the Netizen said it would be unfair for Obi Cubana to bring the movement to Igbo land when his immediate family are based abroad.
“Let It Remain In Lagos And Abuja, Where You’re Developing And Where Most Of Your Investments Are. Let It Stay In The UK, Where Your Wives And Families Are Based. You Haven’t Brought Meaningful Investments, Factories, Or Development To The South-East, And Now You Want To Introduce A ‘City Boy’ Movement Here?’’

She also called on other Igbos to reject the movement.
