Ighodalo revealed his plans to implement excessive tax policies in Edo State if elected as governor, similar to those under Tinubu’s administration in Lagos.
Ighodalo’s recent statements revealed his true priorities.
In a space on X (formerly known as Twitter), he praised Tinubu for the heavy taxation of Lagos residents and vowed to implement a similar tax policy in Edo State under the pretext of boosting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
His intention to impose equally burdensome taxes on the citizens of Edo highlights a concerning disregard for their economic well-being.
Critics warn that this approach will stifle economic growth and place an undue burden on the people.
He’s potential governance, echoing Obaseki’s failures, promises continued mismanagement, economic decline, and political subterfuge.
Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration has been a complete disaster.
Under his leadership, Edo State has amassed a staggering debt exceeding 600 billion Naira. The state’s infrastructure is in disrepair, with crumbling roads and a glaring lack of development.

Instead of addressing these issues, Obaseki has deflected blame onto the federal government, using billboards across Edo State to evade responsibility.
His eight-year tenure has left the state in economic ruin, marked by broken promises and excuses.
The candidacy of Asue Ighodalo, a close ally, protégé, and godson of Obaseki, signals a continuation of these disastrous policies.
Ighodalo’s long-standing association with the Edo Economic Team, from the era of Adams Oshiomhole to Obaseki’s tenure, reveals a shared governance philosophy that has consistently failed the people of Edo State.
Electing Ighodalo is essentially endorsing another term of the same mismanagement and ineptitude that have characterized Obaseki’s administration and left Edo State in ruins.
According to Telerepublic, Ighodalo’s allegiance to the PDP’s presidential ambitions over the Obidients’ support for Peter Obi of the Labour Party undermines the trust and loyalty of the Edo electorate.
The Obidients, staunch supporters of Peter Obi, argue that any true community member should endorse Obi’s vision. Ighodalo’s prioritization of the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2027 over Obi’s candidacy reveals his misplaced loyalties and political opportunism.
Even within the PDP, there is evident reluctance to embrace Ighodalo’s candidacy.
Notably, prominent APC figure Osagie Ize-Iyamu has publicly chastised Governor Obaseki for failing to campaign alongside Ighodalo, citing Obaseki’s lack of achievements and the potential negative impact on Ighodalo’s campaign. Obaseki’s reluctance is a serious indictment of Ighodalo’s suitability for the governorship.
In contrast, Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party emerges as a beacon of hope for Edo State. Inspired by Governor Alex Otti’s successful tenure in Abia State, Akpata promises a fresh era of accountability, transparency, and genuine progress.
His vision and dedication resonate deeply with the aspirations of the Edo people, who seek a government that genuinely serves their needs.
