People in Jail Have Heard My Music, I’m Afrobeats Leader Worldwide — Davido

Famed Nigerian singer David Adeleke, known by his stage name Davido, has confidently asserted himself as the global leader of the Afrobeats genre.

During a recent interview with Billboard’s Nadine Graham, the CEO of DMW Records interrupted Graham when she referred to him as the leader of Afrobeats in the United States, correcting her by claiming leadership “everywhere.”

Davido expressed his desire for audiences to anticipate “just good music,” emphasizing the widespread reach of his artistry by stating, “It’s crazy, because people in jail have heard my music.”

Revealing insights into his current projects, Davido disclosed that he is diligently working on two albums, one tailored for African listeners and the other for the American audience.

He emphasized the importance of bridging cultures through music, citing his favorite collaboration as “2 AM” with Casanova and Tory Lanez, which seamlessly merged Canadian, Nigerian, and American influences.
