Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has once again voiced her concerns about being marginalized in the Senate Committee on matters affecting her constituency.
She expressed her grievances during Tuesday’s Plenary session while the 2024 N98.5 billion Supplementary Budget for the FCT was being considered.
Raising her concerns under rules 10 and 11, Kingibe emphasized that, as the highest elected official in the FCT, she is not being adequately included in discussions and decisions regarding the state’s affairs.

Kingibe said, “I am the highest elected person in the FCT with over four million people.
“I am not usually carried along in the issues that pertain to the FCT, especially the matters of budget.
“The FCT supplementary budget is presented today but I am not even aware of the whole procedure, I was not invited to any meeting where the budget was discussed.”
Senate President Godswill Akpabio interrupted Kingibe, asking her to present her motion.
Akpabio explained that the order Kingibe referenced required her to formally present a motion to the House.
The senators agreed that Kingibe would submit her complaint in a motion the following day.
Last week, Bola Tinubu requested the Senate to approve a supplementary bill of N98.5 billion for the Federal Capital Territory Administration. This amount is in addition to the N1.2 trillion budget passed by the National Assembly in March.
