“I’m Ready for Peace, Won’t Accept to be Dragged Down,” Wike to Fubara

In a bid to quell the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed a willingness to embrace peace with Fubara.

Wike, the immediate past governor of the state, conveyed this message during an address at his Port Harcourt residence while hosting traditional rulers from Ogbaland on the occasion of his 56th birthday.

The conflict between Wike and Governor Sim Fubara had escalated, leading to disharmony within the state legislature.

Notably, 27 lawmakers defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid the turmoil.

Wike, however, asserted that he and his team were open to accepting peace but steadfastly refused to allow themselves to be dragged down.

Wike articulated, “No politician will fold his hands and allow himself to be dragged down.

“I and my team would accept peace but we won’t allow ourselves to be dragged down because when we go down, who will protect our people. Who will talk about our own interest.”

The crisis reached a critical point as the state House of Assembly was engulfed in flames, and Governor Fubara’s administration proceeded to demolish the complex.
