‘I’m Trying to Help FG Curb Banditry,’ Says Gumi

Controversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi, has claimed that he is committed to assisting the Federal Government in tackling the menace of banditry following an interaction with security agencies. This engagement stemmed from Gumi’s prior remarks offering to negotiate with bandits who had abducted schoolchildren in Kaduna State.

“Last night I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security. There is absolutely no cause for alarm. Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying — each in his own sphere — to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation.

“There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect. We all need as a nation to unite and work in synergy to achieve an everlasting peace. I thank you for your concern. May Allah continue to protect us from all evil. Amin,” the post read.

In a statement posted on his social media handle, Gumi expressed gratitude for the inquiries and underscored the need for collective action against the scourge of banditry. He concluded with a prayer for continued protection from all forms of evil.
