The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is set to inaugurate the nation’s inaugural online portal for passport applications today in Abuja.
This was announced during a live demonstration session last Friday, where the Minister showcased the innovative online portal alongside Caroline Adepoju, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The new platform, developed for both international and Nigerian applicants, fulfills the minister’s commitment made in December to fully automate the passport application process nationwide. Tunji revealed that the automated system is now “99 per cent done,” incorporating features such as uploading passport photos and supporting documents.
Under the new system, Nigerian applicants opting for a 32-page passport with a five-year validity period will be required to pay N25,000, while those seeking a 64-page passport with a 10-year validity period will pay N70,000.
