Imo Police Commissioner Urges Respect for Human Rights

Imo

The new Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Danjuma Aboki, has urged the officers and men of the state police command to adhere to the highest standards of fundamental human rights and the rule of law in performing their constitutional duties.

Mr Aboki made this call on Friday in his first address to the senior police officers of the command since he assumed office on November 13. He said he was determined to carry out his new assignment with utmost dedication and professionalism.

He also tasked the senior officers to be proactive and courageous in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state, regardless of the difficulties they might face. He said they must align with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to be vanguards of justice and to work to improve the relations between the police and the public.

Mr Aboki condemned the sit-at-home order issued by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, which has disrupted socio-economic activities in the state. He urged the officers to work to restore normalcy and peace in the state.

He appealed to the residents of Imo State to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in the state by reporting any suspicious activities in their areas. He assured them of the command’s commitment to protect them and their property.
