The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to implement the new national minimum wage without further delay.
This demand follows the recent arrest of NLC President Joe Ajaero by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), which has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from labour leaders and activists.
In a statement shared on social media, the union stated, “Implement the new national minimum wage now! We will not be silenced … Release the president now!”
It is worth noting that Tinubu signed the new Minimum Wage Act into law in late July.

This comes nearly two weeks after reaching an agreement with organized labour unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, on a new minimum wage of N70,000.
However, the federal government has yet to implement the agreed national wage.
